BTS has revealed the tracklist for their album Map of the Soul: 7 and it's a mammoth list of songs, some familiar to fans but most totally unknown to us.
With the news spreading worldwide, some of the songwriters and producers who have been tapped to contribute to the record have been sharing the news of the impending release.
BTS members are heavily involved in all aspects of their music, from composition to production and songwriting, as are the key producers from Big Hit Entertainment like Pdogg, Slow Rabbit and Adora. Sometimes, they also work with composers and songwriters from other countries along with their dedicated Big Hit Entertainment team to create new songs, and in the case of Map of the Soul: 7, there's some new names - as well as familiar international artists - getting involved.
Here's some of the artists who've announced their involvement on Map of the Soul: 7 and some info on them so you can start anticipating the new songs!
Troye SivanHe needs no introduction but for the uninitiated, pop star Troye Sivan hails from Australia and has become an international success. He's released two hugely successful albums, Blue Neighbourhood and Bloom, and now he's collaborated with BTS on writing the song "Louder Than Bombs".
BTS has a long-standing love for Troye Sivan too; RM and JK covered his song "Fools" back in 2015.
SiaAnother artist who most pop music lovers already know, and another Aussie (!), Sia has been making music for a long time, with huge hits to her name like "Chandelier", "Elastic Heart" and "Cheap Thrills" among many others. At this point in time, all we know about her involvement with BTS' new album is that she's featured on a digital bonus track version of the title song, "On", so we'll have to wait and see what that collaboration sounds like once it's released!
DJ SwivelDJ Swivel, aka Jordan Young, is a Canadian Grammy Award-winning producer, who's worked with everyone from Beyonce to The Chainsmokers, Rihanna, JAY Z and Coldplay. He's worked with BTS before by helping write, produce and mix songs from the Love Yourself and Map of the Soul series, including "Love Maze", "Magic Shop", "Euphoria" and "I'm Fine". He's a co-writer on new tracks "Moon" and "We Are Bulletproof: The Eternal" from Map of the Soul: 7.
KOOLKIDScottish singer-songwriter Ryan Lawrie also goes by KOOLKID. A former The X Factor contestant, he's now a solo artist and he's collaborated with BTS before too. He's one of the songwriting credits on "Mikrokosmos", and is one of the writers on new track "Inner Child" from Map of the Soul: 7.
ARCADESLondon-based production duo ARCADES have worked with BTS before, producing "Mikrokosmos" and "Jamais Vu" on Map of the Soul: Persona. The duo, consisting of Max Graham and Matthew Thomson, has worked with the likes of Years & Years, Ellie Goulding and Julia Michaels, and on Map of the Soul: 7 they are also involved with the track "Inner Child".
Fun fact: they were discovered thanks to J-Hope, who heard their debut song "In The Air" and added it to his Spotify playlist!
Adien LewisSinger, songwriter and producer Adien Lewis, who also goes by ADN, has some impressive K-pop credits already: he's worked on Taemin's "MOVE", NCT DREAM's "BOOM", and songs for SHINee, Girls' Generation and Yuri. Now he's credited with working on "Inner Child" for Map of the Soul: 7.
Ellis MiahSinger, songwriter, producer and DJ Ellis Miah has worked with everyone from Miley Cyrus to Ru Paul, Big Freedia and Todrick Hall, and his music has been featured on television shows. He's one of the writers on "Inner Child" too.
LelandAmerican artist Leland, also known as Brett Leland McLaughlin, has worked with a number of pop artists including Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande and Troye Sivan.
He's got some connections with other BTS songwriters, as he composed and wrote the score for film Sierra Burgess Is a Loser with Bram Inscore, and also composed the theme song for the film Boy Erased with Troye Sivan, both of whom are co-writers on "Louder Than Bombs" too.
Allie XAlexandra Ashley Hughes goes by the stage name Allie X, and is a Canadian singer-songwriter and visual artist. She's released two albums and five EPs as a solo artist, and has numerous writing credits. They include working with Troye Sivan on his Blue Neighbourhood and Bloom albums. She's got some previous K-pop credits too, as a co-writer on Girls' Generation member Seohyun's song "Moonlight" and B.A.P's "Thinkhole".
She's credited as a co-songwriter on "Louder Than Bombs" from Map of the Soul: 7.
Bram InscoreLos Angeles-based producer and songwriter Bram Inscore is another of Troye Sivan's collaborators, and has worked with artists ranging from Icona Pop to Hayley Kiyoko, Moses Sumney and NIKI. As mentioned earlier, he worked with Leland for the Sierra Burgess Is a Loser score too, and is credited as a co-producer and co-writer on upcoming BTS track "Louder Than Bombs".
August RigoDan August Rigo is a Filipino-Canadian songwriter, producer and artist who has plenty of pop music writing credits under his belt. He's written for everyone from Justin Bieber to Kehlani and One Direction, and his K-pop music credits include NCT DREAM's "1,2,3", EXO member Baekhyun's "Betcha", and now BTS' "Black Swan".
Vince NantesVince Nantes is a Filipino-American songwriter who co-wrote "Black Swan" with Dan August Rigo, PDogg, RM and Clyde Kelly. While he's worked on solo music and some advertising campaign music, this is his first major songwriting credit.
Clyde KellyAmerican rapper Clyde Kelly has been releasing his own music independently, most recently with album Side Hustle. He had never written for anyone other than himself when he got a cold email from Big Hit Entertainment. The melodies he sent through were rewritten with Korean lyrics and used in the second verse of "Black Swan".
Candace SosaSinger-songwriter Candace Sosa has been credited on a number of BTS songs including "Euphoria", "Magic Shop", "Love Maze", "I'm Fine" and "Mikrokosmos". She's also a singer with her own solo music, and has guest vocals on Armin Van Buuren's track "Runaway". She's a co-writer on upcoming BTS songs "Moon" and "We Are Bulletproof: The Eternal".
Caesar & LouiSongwriting duo Mikael Daniel Caesar and Alex Ludwig Lindell are no strangers to K-pop: their credits range from Red Velvet's "Red Flavour" to Taemin's "Pretty Boy", MONSTA X's "Destroyer" and "Fallin", plus songs with EXO-CBX, LOONA, SHINee and more. Though it's still not officially confirmed by the duo, it appears the duo are co-writers on "Moon", alongside BTS members RM and Jin, Korean writers Hyung Kwon Do, Park Soohyun, and the aforementioned Candace Sosa and DJ Swivel.
All these songwriters work in unison with Big Hit Entertainment producers and BTS members when putting songs together. This isn't a comprehensive list of everyone involved, and while we already know some of these names and their styles, it'll be exciting to see what other songwriters and producers bring to the mix when it comes to Map of the Soul: 7.
