Fortnite Chapter 2 map: Every new place of interest on the island

The long awaited update is finally here, and we now have a rejigged Fortnite map to go along with the launch of the new season. Obviously we weren't expecting a seismic shift on the scale of the transition to the second chapter, but there have still been a decent number of map changes with the arrival of Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2. It seems that we're getting some significant military presence with new bases being established in key locations, as well as offshore locations for the first time in Fortnite. Read on for an overview of what's new in the Fortnite Chapter 2 map, as well as suggestions for the best places to land.

From our first look at the Fortnite map for Season 2, we can pick out a number of new and updated locations. It also appears that the Fortnite EGO outposts have been removed, which could have big implications for the Fortnite EGO and ALTER forces. We'll have more information when we can access the game, but for now these are the biggest Fortnite map changes we've picked out:

B1 - an island and base north of Sweaty Sands

H1 - a large ship and small island

A4 - an underwater shadow/choppier water

E4 - a large base on Eye Land

D5 - a small base

H5 - a large sphere or silo

B7 - an oil rig off the coast near Slurpy Swamp

G7 - a small base/building near the secret bunker

G8 - a new building near the Weather Station

Best places to land on the Fortnite map

Question is, where should you be going for the best loot and chance to win the game? Once we've had time to visit the Fortnite Season 2 map we'll update this guide with the locations we reckon you should land at.

First up for the best places to land on the new Fortnite map is Steamy Stacks, a huge power plant in the north-east corner of the map. With a monument to everyone's favourite cube, Kevin, in the front car park, there's plenty of chests to be found in and around this huge point of interest. It's also in the very corner of the map, so you'll avoid all of the players that love to go to the very centre at the start.

It's one of the few returning locations and believe it or not, Retail Row is still a great place to land. Mega Mall has disappeared and Retail Row is back to its old self, with numerous houses and shops to loot. At this early stage in the new season, it's also unlikely you'll run into loads of players here at the start, as people will want to explore the new places before somewhere as OG as Retail Row.

Camp Cod – yes, the fish, not the other FPS game – is another landmark found in the south-east corner of the map, south-east of Misty Meadows and below the enormous snowy mountain. This place is huge to say it's not named on the map, with three distinct areas to loot: a junkyard, enormous house, and target practice zone. There's also a weapon upgrade bench on the far east side, inside the dilapidated warehouse.

Perhaps the worst named landmark of the lot is Eye Land, slap bang in the middle of the, uh, island. Surrounded by water on all sides, if you can take the compound in the middle and defend it, you'll be set up for most of the game. Being so central means you won't have to travel too far to reach the safe zone if you're not already in it, and there's also a boat spawn on the north side.
