Combining pumpkins and succulents is a very easy and trendy
look for Autumn. Combining fake pumpkins and fake
succulents is even easier because you don't have to worry about
keeping either one of them looking fresh for the whole season.

All of the craft stores have the supplies that you will need
for this simple project. You may already have most of the
items already...a faux (fake) pumpkin, a few stems faux
(fake) succulents and some moss. Other things that might
possibly help in putting all of this together are toothpicks,
 wooden skewers and some glue.
You don't have to go crazy with this look like I did.

Folks that use real pumpkins and real succulents for this
look employ wet moss to keep the roots of the succulents
moist. Having moss is not crucial for our fake look but it
helps make it look more real.
The moss and succulents will be in the floral section of craft stores.

You can use whatever color of pumpkin and succulents
you want to. I wanted to try a more neutral look so I
chose white pumpkins and muted color succulents.

Here are two pumpkins that I am going to use on my
mantel with their succulents and moss ready.

Start by putting some moss on top of the pumpkin. If you
don't mind putting some small holes in your pumpkin, it helps
to secure the moss with toothpicks pushed into the foam.

(If your pumpkin has a nice stem you don't want to remove,
just pile up some extra moss around it.)

If your faux succulents have stems, push them through the
moss into the foam pumpkin at the angle you like. Keep in
mind the angle from which the succulents will be viewed.

If you are using sheet moss, it might be hard to push the stem
through the moss. Another option for assembly is to arrange
the moss around the succulents after they are pushed in.

If your succulents don't have stems (like a lot of mine...they
were purchased at end of season clearance last year 80%
off) , you can either just set them on the moss and see if
they will just stay, glue a toothpick or skewer on the bottom
or glue them directly onto the moss.

Here are my mantel succulent pumpkins "in action".

The succulent pumpkins also look great as centerpieces, in
Autumn vignettes, on bookcases or porches.

Here are some other succulent pumpkins used in my house this
year to decorate for Autumn...no upkeep required!

I used the faux pumpkins and succulents in decorating
my house last Autumn also. If you want to see more ways
to use them in decorating your home, click here to go to

part of the post shows pictures of the house in Fall 2017.

This is a fun, easy project to try. Thanks for visiting my blog!
